Residential Plumbing

 The Pipe Trades Training Center has worked diligently with the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) to create curriculum that extends down to the level of daily lesson plans that include Power Point slides that cover every moment of class time for the entire four years.

The Residential Plumbing Apprenticeship is a four-year program. It consists of a standard set of curriculum which will provide the apprentices with the opportunity to learn through a variety of different methods include Power Point presentations, assignments, lab activities (hands-on) and other in-class activities.  Additional methods of instruction may include videos, field trips or special presentations by industry representatives. Quizzes or assessments may also be used to gauge an apprentice's understanding of the concepts presented through the instructional process.  The following concepts will be covered in the Residential Plumbing Curriculum.

  •  Use and Care of Tools
  •  Construction and Plumbing Definitions
  •  Copper and Steel Piping and Tubing

Semester 2:

  • Plastic, Cast Iron and Clay Piping
  •  Residential Drainage Systems

 Year 2:

Semester 1:

  •  Material Handling and Environmental Issues
  •  Hangers, Steel Pipe and Natural Gas Systems
  •  Construction and Fire Caulking
  •  Water Supply and Hydrostatic Testing

Semester 2:

  •  Related Math

Year 3:

Semester 1:

  • Residential Blueprint Reading

Semester 2:

  •  Sleeves, Inserts and Layout
  •  Copper Pipe and Tube Installation
  •  Residential Valves and Backflow Devices
  •  Residential Plumbing Fixtures

Year 4:

Semester 1:

  •  Residential Plumbing Codes

Semester 2:

  •  Trenches and Confined Spaces
  •  Polyethylene Gas Installations
  •  Residential Service Work
