This hands-on class provides HVAC contractors with a detailed review of how to ensure proper refrigerant charge and airflow for all residential and small commercial refrigerant system types. Charging by superheat, subcooling and weigh-in methods will be covered in detail. Participants will test a variety of air conditioner brands, efficiencies, refrigerants and metering devices. Compliance with current Title 24 refrigerant charge criteria will be discussed.

Home performance contractors need to understand the basics of good mechanical system sizing, design, equipment selection, and installation. This class explains critical factors necessary to ensure the lowest operating cost and highest degree of comfort for occupants. Performance targets include conditioning costs of 10-25 cents per square foot, uniform room to room and ceiling to floor temperatures, quiet operation, and improved indoor air quality.

We recommend completing "ACCA Manual J - Equipment Sizing and Selection" and "ACCA Manual D - Duct Design" before attending this class. This is a hands-on class utilizing a full-size horizontal HVAC system. Participants will measure actual airflow, static pressure and amperage as the system is assembled. Key system accessories are interchanged to see the total effects on the system air delivery capability. This is an excellent class for applying ACCA Manual D Duct Design principles and concepts.
