APPLICATION FOR APPRENTICESHIP

IN THE OCCUPATIONS OF

RESIDENTIAL PLUMBING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

 

Applications are available on a continuous basis every Monday through Thursday between the hours of 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (except holidays) at the Pipe Trades Training Center located at 780 Commercial Street, San Jose, CA. When applying, applicants should bring: 1) A photo identification, such as a Driver's License, 2) A letter of recommendation and proof of a minimum of three (3)-months experience with a contractor signatory with Local 393, (3) A referral from Local 393 to the sponsoring 393 signatory contractor.

HOURLY WAGE RATE:
Starting wage is 51% of Journeyman wage rate.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

AGE:

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time he/she makes application.

EDUCATION:

NO EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT NECESSARY.

 

3.

PHYSICAL:

Applicant must be of such physical condition as not to place him/herself or their future co-worker in jeopardy.

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRADE:
Apprentices shall be under the direct supervision of a qualified journeyman at all times. The trade requires physical effort on the part of the apprentice to do climbing, crawling, pulling, lifting, crouching and working in cramped quarters. Mechanical ability and finger dexterity are very essential. The major portion of this work is outdoors in unsheltered areas.

SEASONAL WORK SUBJECT TO WEATHER AND ECONOMIC CONDITIONS.

LENGTH OF APPRENTICESHIP:
The length of apprenticeship is four (4) years of on-the-job training which includes four (4) years of schooling. (Mandatory attendance of classes one night a week is required by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.)

SCOPE OF WORK:
This occupation covers all phases of residential plumbing and plumbing accessories involved in the construction of single and multiple family units, hotels and motels.

SELECTION OF APPRENTICES:
The selection of apprentices will be made on the basis of qualifications alone without regard to race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sex, age and handicap.

 

How to Become a Residential Plumber Apprentice

in the Local 393 Apprentice Program

1.      Applicant finds a job with a Residential Contractor.  The only Residential Contractors that may participate in the program are the five that are listed on the Local Union 393 Residential Plumbing Contractors list.  No other contractors can participate in the new Residential Plumbing Apprenticeship Application Requirements unless authorized by the Business Manager of Local 393.

 

2.      After the applicant is employed for a maximum of three (3) months by the Residential Employer, the employer will contact Local 393 and arrange for the applicant to come to Local 393 to fill out the New Member enrollment forms and pick up a dispatch.

 

3.      The applicant will then go to the Training Center with a copy of their dispatch and a letter from their employer stating that they wish to hire the applicant as an apprentice.  The Apprenticeship Training Center will have the applicant complete all necessary forms to be enrolled in the Apprenticeship Program.
